Joseph Brant Hospital

The hospital derived its name from Joseph Brant, a Mohawk Indian who was renowned political figure in the early history of Thayendanegea region.  Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH), which opened stands on part of the land which was owned by him.  Joseph Brant Hospital opened on February 1, 1961 with 228 beds.  Today, the hospital has 245 inpatient beds and offers a wide range of patient programs including Medicine, Surgery, Emergency, Maternal and Child, Mental Health, Rehabilitation and Complex Care.  The hospital also provides clinical services such as cancer care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, diabets care, speech language pathology, ophthalmology and more.

The hospital is currently undergoing a Redevelopment and Expansion Project to ensure we continue to care for our community today and for future generations.  Our new, state-of-the-art hospital will provide a new Emergency Department, new Operating Rooms, expanded cancer clinic and outpatient services as well as 70% single patient rooms across the hospital.

From 2012-2013, the hospital had 13,258 admissions, the Emergency Department had 47,326 visits in 2012-13 and 1,459 births were recorded.  The hospital has a skilled staff of 175 physicians, 1,400 full and part time professional health care staff and more than 600 active volunteers.
